In some men, this type of hair loss begins as early as around age 20. In others, it is only around the age of 50. The cause in most cases is Alopecia Androgenetica. This type of hair loss is caused by the male hormone. The inlet hair follicles are sensitive to the male DHT hormone. This causes the hair follicles to produce an increasingly poor quality of hair, as well as fewer and fewer hairs. Until eventually the hair on the crown consists only of tiny downy hairs.
Often hair loss in this area is excellent to treat with hair transplantation. A hair transplant is the relocation of healthy hair follicles to bald areas created by hair loss. The FUE method is the most widely used hair transplantation method worldwide. In this hair transplant treatment, groups of hair follicles (grafts) are removed one by one from the donor area. The donor area in most cases is the back of the head. Then they are placed in the area where the hair has fallen out. In most cases, hair loss is caused by the hair follicles being sensitive to the DHT hormone. The hairs at the back of the head, are insensitive to the DHT hormone and will continue to produce new hairs after relocation. A hair transplant is therefore a permanent and natural solution for treating hair loss.
A treatment of the crown varies between 1250 and 2500 grafts. This depends on the donor material available and the size of the fallout area. It is more common to treat the consequences of hair loss earlier. There is then no waiting until all the hair has fallen out before the crown hair transplant takes place. In order to make a good consideration in this, good advice is important. Treatment also affects the possibilities and impossibilities in the future. The advantage of early advice is that sometimes there are still possibilities to prevent further hair loss.
A hair transplant at the crown is a treatment that can be performed hair sparingly. Depending on the treatment size, this is possible up to 1500 grafts per hair transplant crown treatment. By treating a crown using the FUE hair-saving method, it is not necessary to shave the entire hair, only the donor area.
With a hair transplant crown, groups of hair follicles are redistributed from the donor area (usually the back of the head), to the area to be transplanted. A hair transplant at the crown is a proven and reliable method of permanently restoring an area where hair has fallen out.
During the consultation, a specialist will explain to you the different treatment techniques for crown hair transplantation, and discuss with you which method best suits your needs. The quality of the donor material is also taken into consideration.
Treatment begins with preparing the donor area for the hair transplant crown with local anesthesia. In almost all cases, this is the back of the head. Then the follicular units (grafts) consisting of one to three hairs are extracted one by one from the donor area with a hollow needle about 0.5 millimeter to 0.8 millimeter thin.
In the skin surfaces of the crown, we make very small openings (incisions) in the skin with a needle. Then the grafts are transplanted piece by piece into these prepared incisions. Here we place the grafts in the correct direction of the hair, so that the transitions of the crown with the existing hair are as natural as possible. The transplanted hairs then grow permanent within a few days after the hair transplant at the crown.
After the hair transplant crown treatment, you will be given a mobile number of the attending physician for urgent questions. You can also schedule a follow-up appointment with the doctor if you wish. The final check-up is one year after the treatment, when the hair transplant crown before/after photos will also be reviewed. There are no additional costs associated with the check-up appointments.
Receive a hair transplant treatment and price estimate by email. To do so, please email photos of the donor area (the back of your head) and the area to be treated to info@zantmankliniek.nl. Please include your first and last name, phone number and date of birth. You will receive a recommendation by e-mail from one of our specialists within one working day.
The risk of medical complications from hair transplantation is minimal. The superficial wounds in the skin generally recover very successfully.
A side note here is that the treatment is performed in an appropriate medical environment and according to proper treatment protocols. At a good hair clinic, this will be in order.
Immediately after the hair transplant
Immediately after treatment, small scabs are visible until about 7 to 10 days after treatment. After that, others cannot see that you have undergone scalp treatment.
Subsequent months
After about 4 to 6 months, hair will begin to grow again in places where you previously had no hair. This is very gradual and will therefore be inconspicuous. The first hairs are slightly finer in structure than the following hairs produced by the transplanted hair follicles. One year after the treatment, the result is fully visible.
The cost of a hair transplant depends on the number of grafts (groups of hair follicles) required. A small treatment is 500 grafts, an average is 1500 grafts and a large treatment is 2000+ grafts.
The hair transplant costs are clearly listed on the page 'hair transplant costs' which can be found in the main menu. This page also lists available Last Minute dates and other current offers.
The number of grafts required for a hair transplant treatment depends on two factors. Those are your personal wishes and the available donor material (usually the back of your head).
A small treatment is 500 to 1000 grafts. An average treatment is 1500 grafts. A large treatment is 2000+ grafts.
