The beauty of "hair" is that it constantly grows, takes a rest, falls out and starts growing again. At least when everything is normal.

Fortunately, each hair has a different schedule because otherwise we humans would regularly be temporarily completely bald. In animals, that does happen. Then they are moulting. In humans, fortunately, this is not the case. However, when the hair, body or scalp is subject to stress, hair can go into a resting phase. Because of the shock of moving hair during a hair transplant, this is very possible. When that resting phase is over, those hairs still fall out. The consequences of this are called Telogen hair loss. There are more hairs in the resting phase than normal.

Stress during a hair transplant

Nature never foresaw that there would come a time when we would take hair out of the back of the head, make holes on the upper head and put hair back in those holes. So it's logical that the hair follicles would go into stress.

Is this hair loss temporary?

Hair loss due to stress associated with a hair transplant is a temporary problem. The hair follicles resume their old schedule at some point. Usually only the client notices it but his surroundings do not.
