Recently, the ISHRS, the international professional association of doctors engaged in surgical treatment for hair loss, met again. The number of hair transplants worldwide had increased again by 3%.

Competition.

When more people want hair transplants, and the number of women seeking hair transplants also increases, more competition is created. More competition also means more marketing with sometimes not so honest expressions.

What do the experts say?

• Hair transplantation in women must be approached differently than in men. The expectation level in women is higher.
• There are two methods, namely the FUT (Follicle Unit Transplant), which is suitable for larger areas, is faster and costs less time (i.e., money).
• And there is the FUE (Follicle Unit Extraction) where follicle units are removed one at a time from the back of the head. More work (thus money) and suitable for smaller treatments.
• There is also a third method called HST (Hair Stem Cell Transplantation). This method has gained a lot of notoriety in the Netherlands because many celebrities have been treated with it. Because the results have not yet been independently evaluated, many doctors are still skeptical about it.
