L'OREAL INTRODUCES NEW HAIR GROWTH REMEDY.

In September 2012, cosmetics company L'Oreal will present a new development in biotechnology designed to not only stop hair loss, but also stimulate greater density and new hair growth. The product is called Neogenic, and its implications hold promise for millions of people suffering from hair loss and baldness.

One step beyond Aminoxil

Previously, L'Oreal introduced a line of hair loss prevention products based on a synthetic molecule called Aminoxil, a sister to Minoxidil.

This product was intended to improve, by acting on the collagen, the structure around the follicles. Now they have created the second generation of the molecule for Neogenic which is expected to give better results.

How does Neogenic work

This latest development from L'Oreal is another synthetic molecule with a powerful new approach called stemoxydine. It has been proven that hair follicles without growth are surrounded by oxygen-depleted microvasculature. Stemoxydine addresses this issue, attempting to increase oxygen levels in the scalp's small vascular structures. The molecule acts on hair-derived stem cells, enhancing their regenerative potential and maintaining function so that new growth can occur.

Haarlem oil or reality? Results of clinical trials.

Neogenic has demonstrated clinically proven efficacy for some time. The product is patented and has been tested through both in vitro (in the lab) studies and in vivo (on subjects) studies with very encouraging results. In a double-blind study of 100 men between 18 and 55 who used Neogenic, hair density was increased by 4%. This may not sound like much, percentage-wise, but when you look at the actual numbers, 4% is an average of 1,700 new hairs. Neogenic promises not only thicker hair but also to put follicles that were dormant back to work

How to use, and what it will cost

L'Oreal will introduce the new product in September, initially in France, where the company is based. During the launch, Neogenic will only be available in lotion form. The product must be rubbed on the scalp once a day, and results can be expected after 1 month. The introductory price for a monthly pack will be € 90, = per month. Although the price tag is a bit high, it is likely that it will become somewhat more affordable later. L'Oreal also plans to introduce other products with stemoxydine in the near future, with stemoxydine as an active ingredient, such as mousses and shampoos.
