Popularity of beard growth depends on percentage of men with beards

More and more men on the street have full beards. However, research has shown that the popularity of bearded men depends on a number of factors. Based on their research, Australian evolutionary biologists predict that "bearded men" will be beautiful as long as they remain in the minority.

If almost all men grew their beards, it would make them less attractive. When the number of men with beards is sparse, they are found more attractive. This research was published in the scientific journal Bilology Letters.

If men were to shave off their beards, facial hair becomes more attractive again. This would possibly explain why it used to be a trend to grow your beard as well.

This research was a serious study. As many as 1,664 people participated in this study. Mainly straight women were presented with passport photos of people with and without beards. Depending on the percentage of beards the participants were presented with, the beauty ratings decreased or increased. Only above 50% beards did the mood turn. For the time being, however, it will not happen that there are as many men with a beard as there are without. And even then, both women and men still prefer to see someone with a beard than without. So beard transplantation is expected to remain very popular for the time being.
